Getting Rid Of Bags Under The Eyes Naturally

No matter how hard you try, applying eye makeup to conceal puffiness under the eyes doesn't work. Instead, it only makes the problem worse by highlighting the puffiness. Some people consider surgery as the ultimate remedy, but it is not guaranteed to work 100% of the time. Not to mention that surgery can cost you a lot and involves numerous risks. Now, how can you get rid of that sagging area under your eyes? Read on to find out the simple, natural, and affordable methods to eliminate puffiness under the eyes.

1. Get more sleep and rest.

Bags under your eyes are a telling sign of lack of sleep and rest, aside from aging. If you always lack sleep, no amount of remedies will solve your woes. Thus, the number one rule in getting rid of puffiness under the eyes is to get adequate sleep. Try to sleep for 7 to 9 hours. That way, your body can get all the rest it needs to rejuvenate your body.

2. Drink lots of water.

Lack of water, along with lack of sleep, is the key ingredient of puffiness under the eyes. The body tends to retain more water if it senses a lack of water in the system. As a result, some of the water is retained under your eyes, making that area bigger than usual. To prevent this, your body needs to be hydrated. What better way to do that than drinking at least eight glasses of water everyday? In doing so, your body won't have to store water under your eyes, and the puffiness in that area will be removed.

3. Relax with cucumber or tea bags.

Cucumbers do wonders in getting rid of bags under the eyes. Here's what you must do to enjoy the wonderful benefits of cucumbers: slice a cool cucumber into circles (1/4 inch thick) and put the slices on your eyes. Relax for several minutes. Better yet, take a nap with the cucumber slices on your eyesthis will invigorate your eyes and your mind, as well as reduce the puffiness under your eyes.

Tea bags have a similar effect, but it does so in just a matter of minutes. Use two tea bags to make hot tea and let them cool completely. When the teabags are already cool, put them on your eyes, lie down on your back, and relax. Then after three to four minutes, turn the teabags and relax for another few minutes. Finally, wash your face with cool water and pat it to dry.

4. Apply witch hazel on the eye bags.

Witch hazel is also a natural and effective remedy to get rid of eye bags. Before you use the witch hazel, cool it in the refrigerator for about 20 minutes. Next, apply it to the skin under the eyes using a cotton swab or ball. Witch hazel can help reduce the size of your eye bags as well as refresh and tighten the skin under the eyes.

It is safer and less costly to use natural remedies than undergoing surgery to reduce puffiness under the eyes. Try these remedies and enjoy their relaxing and beauty-enhancing effects!

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
How do I get rid of the bags under my eyes naturally?
I get enough sleep, but i've still got bags under my eyes! I want to wear my contacts, but don't want those bags to show. (it's been said that I actually look zombie like, that's how bad it is) So how can I get rid of these bags naturally??

    • ANSWER:
Hyhdration may be a factor in the bags under your eyes. Make sure you're drinking plenty of water every day. Skin specialists recommend 8 full glasses of water to keep your skin hydrated and healthy. Teabags also work to reduce swelling. Also, don't rub your eyes. This loosens the skin around them and contributes to bags.

If this doesn't work, consider the possibility that you may naturally have dark under-eye circles. My husband has had dark purple smudges beneath his eyes since he was about 8 years old - some people just have all the luck!

  2. QUESTION:
How To Get Rid Of Bags Under Eyes Naturally? No Makeup Please. :) ?
I have bags under my eyes 24/7 and i get 8 hours asleep every night! What are some techniques that can help me get rid of them? I'm not going to use makeup. It makes your face looks fake and gross. So any ideas on how to get rid of them? I would appreciate it so much! I'll try all the answers :) Thanks in advance!

    • ANSWER:
Hi - 8 hours may not be long enough; some people, particularly growing youngsters, need more.

Prop the head of your bed up using a couple of fat books under the two legs at the top of your bed. Get someone to help you; it can get heavy and fiddly. This encourages drainage from the face, which is what I suspect your eye-bags are all about (fluid).

Make sure your bedroom is well-ventilated and cool. A hot body swells, and that includes your face.

There are all sorts of methods that are supposed to reduce eye-bags, such as applying cold used teabags or slices of cucumber. You can also buy cooling gel masks for the eye zone.

      Good luck.

      Preventing PuffyDark Eyes:

Stay hydrated!!! If you are thirsty, you are dehydrated. When properly hydrated, your urine will be nearly clear. (Note that some drugs and foods can alter the color of your urine.)

Lower your salt intake. The body can only store salt in fluid suspension - which will gather in the skin around your eyes. (Bonus: Lowering your salt consumption can improve your overall health.)

Never sleep wearing eye make-up. Regardless of how tired you may be, always use an eye make-up remover and continue until the cotton ball or pad shows no signs of make-up. Use a cotton pad rather than a tissue because it is less irritating. Removing eye make-up will prevent it from entering the eyelid and causing irritation.

Beware of bacteria. Speaking of eye make-up…Do not use mascara or any other eye product that is older than a few months. Bacteria that have grown in the make-up would love a new home in your eyes, and will cause your eyelids to swell. On this note it is probably a good idea not to share your eye products with anyone else either.

Be sure you get enough quality, regular sleep.

Sleep with your head elevated to allow better circulation and prevent fluid from collecting around your eyes.

Sleep on your back so that gravity does not route fluid directly to your eyes.

      Getting Rid of Puffy/Dark Eyes:

Dip cotton balls in ice cold cucumber or potato juice and let rest on eyes for 10-15 min

Wear a mask that is filled with cold water or gel for a few minutes when you wake up in the morning.

Wrap pieces of ice in paper towels and place them on your eyelids for a few minutes. The cold will reduce the swelling.

Keep your eye creams in the refrigerator. The cool cream will help reduce your puffy eyes. When applying the cream, gently tap it onto your eyelid with your ring finger, so as to stimulate fluid drainage.

Soak cotton-wool pads in a bowl of ice-cold milk and then squeeze most of the liquid out. Place the pads on your eyes and repeat as they warm up for about 15 minutes. This will also brighten the white in your eye.

Dip cotton balls in ice water, and then squeeze the water out. Apply the cotton balls to your eyes for 5-10 minutes.

Place slices of cucumber, potatoes, or apple over the puffy eyelids for 10-15 minutes. Potatoes will reduce dark circles under the eyes and apples have pectin which aids in anti-oxidation.

Give your eyes a salt bath by soaking cotton pads in a saline solution or a solution of one teaspoon of salt in one pint of hot water. Place the pads on your puffy eyelids for a few minutes.

Apply a hemorrhoid cream to the puffy area around the puffy eye, being EXTREMELY CAREFUL not to get any in your eye. Be sure to look for a cream that contains yeast and shark’s liver oil

      1) Put some spoons in the freezer, as soon as they are nice and cold place them over your eyes.

      2) First rub the sides of your nose, then press your fingers firmly on your cheekbones and tap lightly on your forehead, this helps with drainage.

      3) Take something (a lotion, an eyecream, anything) and gently massage under your eyes. This increases bloodflow, helping diminish dark circles.

Also, even SLEEPING causes dark circles, it's natural for you to get them even with plenty of sleep. :)

  13. QUESTION:
why do i have bags under my eyes? how do i get rid of them?
i am 15 years old(guy). i started getting bags in the starting of this school year. how do i get rid of these bags naturally at home

    • ANSWER:
      Puffy Eyes

You are out of luck in the skin care or cosmetics. Sorry. There are dozens of eye creams out there that claims to depuff and lighten dark circles and they are almost always lying through their teeth. There is no solid research that indicates that cucumber or caffeine to be effective to remove the bags under your eyes. Tea bags, well, their may be chemicals in there that can constrict blood vessels and drain the fluids, but there is no guarantee. Try if you like!

Here are the causes and treatment I suggest:

8.Fluid retention from weather changes, hormone fluctuations, or salty foods.
Treatment: Reduce salt intake. Alcohol can also cause water retention. The hormone fluctuation (think puberty or your period) and weather changes is beyond your control, so there is little you can do with that if your puffiness is triggered by them. You can take oral contraceptives to balance out hormone. Speak with your personal physicians for further assistance. You can “perhaps” manually drain the fluids with a circular massaging motion around your eyes, but please be gentle, you do not want to tear any elastin or rub too hard that you make matters worse.

      9.Sleeping flat on your back
Treatment: sleep on an incline! Have your pillow slightly elevated so the fluids can be drained overnight.

10.Not getting enough sleep (leads to stress leads to hormone imbalance)
Treatment: Get enough sleep! If you have a difficult time sleeping, speak with your pharmacist for further assistant.

11.Allergies or dermatitis (redness and itching)
Treatment: Avoid any skin care products that may contain fragrance or other irritants that can make matters worse. To deal with existing redness and itching, you may want to apply 1% hydrocortisone. If the problem persist like severe case of eczema, you need to visit your local board certified dermatologist for professional opinion.

12.Heredity (your genetic predetermines that you have puffy eyes, sorry!)
Treatment: Either embrace it or get it fix with your board certified plastic surgeon. He or she can surgically remove the fat pad under your eyes so you will not have a bulge or that “puff” anymore.

How to get rid of bags and dark lines under eyes? (MEN)?
Ive noticed ive got thick bags and a dark line under both my eyes.

I believe its probably having a lack of sleep. Lately ive had soo much work from uni and been up till 4,5 and even 6 am, and then having to wake up early.

I tried getting some sleep but instead of having a lie-in, i automatically woke up early on the weekend.

    What could I do?

NO MAKE-UP, MENS ROLL ON TIPS...just naturally.! thanks!!

    • ANSWER:
Contrary to popular belief, dark circles are not a product of anything other than ill health and genetics. Products such as roll-ons etc are a marketing ploy.
If you have these, you need to address them by making yourself healthier, i.e eat better, get more rest and looking after yourself. No quick fix, I'm afraid.

no, my mother does not have them. neither of my parents do. or any of my siblings for that matter.

    • ANSWER:
Does your mother have them? They might just be genetic. Like your family is prone to having loose skin or something. The other thing is that you might be eating too much salt. If you have too much salt, then you tend to retain water, and the eyelids are one of those sensitive areas that will show up with water retention. Blood pressure medications like HCTZ can help prevent water retention. But a quick fix would just be the right types of eye creams that have an astringent effect (but don't get those types into the eyeballs cause it would hurt). I think that's how cucumber slices help.

I naturally have bags under my eyes. Even if I sleep fantastic, people say it looks like I've been up all night. They are even worse when I get no sleep. How can I get rid of puffy eyes and dark circles?
I have bags under my eyes and puffiness. How can i get rid of this naturally without using harsh chemicals. Ive tried off the counter creams, but i dont see much of a difference. Are there any natural remedies? Thank you.

    • ANSWER:
      Hi,

Try placing slices of raw potato over your eyes for a few minutes. You might feel ridiculous doing it, but there’s a reason it’s a time-honored home remedy—potatoes contain an enzyme that lightens pigmentation and reduces dark areas.

      To reduce puffy eyes:

      1. Place an eye mask in the freezer for 20 minutes.

      2. Remove and wrap it in a damp wash cloth.

      3. Place over eyes for 10-15 minutes. Cold temperature constricts blood vessels, slightly diminishing the flow of fluid into tissues and reducing puffiness in the process.

      4. Finish up by patting eye area dry and applying a moisturizer made specifically for the delicate skin around eyes into the area.

  36. QUESTION:
Help ? I have bags under my eyes !?
Im only 14 ! I'm not sick or anything, i just have bags ! So i cover them up with makeup but you can still kinda see them, is there any way to get rid of them naturally besides getting more sleep, and how much more sleep do i need ? Thanks for the help (:

    • ANSWER:
      Get more sleep

-Bags are sometimes caused by water retention, if you're retaining water your problem may only be temporary and will clear on its own.

-Sleep on your back. Apparently this keeps water from pooling up under your eyes overnight.

-Use an anti-puffiness cream or serum, there are plenty out there. Dab it very gently under your eyes and pick a formula that can be worn alone or under makeup. I find that those containing chamomille work well. I have sensitive and oily skin and it works well for me when I need to use it. Overnight I use Neutrogena Active Copper cream, works well and I found that I rarely wake up with bags anymore.

-Stay clear of things that irritate allergies or the eyes in general (i.e., cigarette smoke)

-Bags that are hereditary or are the result of fat deposits building up will likely require surgery to permanently remove them.

I know a poor little kid about 12 years old that has wrinkles. How can she naturally get rid of them?
Her parents said its not worth spending money for. I want to help her get rid of them as fast as I can, because she said she looks old. How fast can they be gone? She also has bags under her eyes along with the line wrinkles. I want her to feel more happy about herself.

    • ANSWER:
If you are looking for home remedy to reduce wrinkles, try this.
Smear honey on your face and leave it for as long as possible (but 5-10mins a day will do). then rinse off with tepid water mixed with a teaspoon of cider vinegar - this has a neutral pH and will act as a toner.

And if you have some bucks, Lifecell anti wrinkle cream would be a good choice. You can have more information here.

    I'm 28 years old
I have sort of dark circles under my eyes- and bad under my eyes- only when I smile. What are some good suggestions that might help? Creams? Do cucumbers really work? Like I said- the bags seem to only be there when I smile. I say a pic of my 5 years ago and they weren't there!!!
    I don't drink alcohol, I don't smoke....so I know those aren't reason why I would have them.
Perhaps lack of sleep- I go to sleep at a decent hour most nights- but I always get up at least 3-5 times a night. ASK YOURSELF THESE QUESTIONS WHAT MAKES YOU HAVE DARK EYE RINGS

Iron Deficiency & Dark eye rings

Is it possible that your iron intake is insufficient or low? How can we determine this? What are the natural ways to increase iron uptake in our bodies for overall health as well as diminishing unsightly dark circles under the eyes you ask?

Natural hereditary & genetics in dark circles

Hereditary and genetics can also play a big role in the development and dominance of dark under eye circles for many people. With such things as thinner or fairer skin, pigmentation tendencies, allergies, or bone structure being possibly linked to your family genes.

There is very little we can do about this natural tendency of our family hereditary to have dark bags or shadows under our eyes (we can yell at our parents perhaps, stressing and making them worse, but get the point your unsatisfied with the genes they gave us!) and in many cases simple home remedies or products won’t go to far in helping us to remove or get rid of our dark bags.

If you suspect that your family is to blame for those glorious raccoon eyes, after you’re done giving them a piece of your mind for oh so brilliantly passing the trait onto you, you can check out some good techniques for hiding dark circles, preventing even worse appearance of them, effect products and in more extreme cases; surgeries and procedures here on DarkCirclesPuffyEyes.com.

About iron and its dark circle role
A deficiency in iron is one of the more common causes of unexplainable dark circles for many people, and the awesome news about this is the fix is quite simple in that if we intake and support better iron uptake into our blood system, we should see a diminishing or getting rid of dark circles quite quickly and painlessly.

Low iron levels is the most common form of anemia, and results in poor oxygenation body tissues due to lessened blood oxygenating efficiency. Unfortunately for us, one of the areas this shows most of all is under the eyes where vessels tend to clot and pool, thus causing the darkening and eye circle effect we are on this site to try and fight.

Sinus & Nasal problems associated with dark bags
      27

      Apr

      Posted under: Causes & Treatment

Nasal inflammation and sinus congestion can cause a more serious effect known as venous congestion, which is interfering with the return path of blood to the heart after it has been pumped out. This low pressure system due to congestion is a serious effect which slows down and impairs the bloods flow through our body, trapping it as it attempts to flow through the tiny vessels found in our facial area. The blood may pool in this area and shows through the skin where the blood vessels build up, usually near our eyes causing a purplish like circle!!

If you area aware of, or are suspecting of having sinus or nasal congestion relating, proper treatment of these problems in many people will help in the appearance of dark circles around our eyes (with many seeing complete reversal)

If you suffer from regular and not so easily explained headaches as well as regular dark circle appearance, this may be another precursor and warning sign that you have sinus-related problems, and you should seek expert medical advice as soon as possible. Proper identification and treatment of sinus issues will go along way in making you feel better and healthier, and for most will aid greatly in the diminishing the dark under eye shadow appearance.

HERE IS A STORY CONTAINING A CURE

Any teenage girl would be upset to find out that her raccoon eyes were hereditary, and my baby sister was no exception. As if by magic, or some strange evil curse, she woke up one morning with our family's famous dark eye circles. Its particularly noticeable in the women, and my mother and grandmother have been masking it for years. Yes maybe it is a function of poor diet, and yes maybe it is lack of exercise. Who knows? But neither my Dad or my Mother was too interested in spending HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS buying clinque-this and oil-of-that to appease my sister's vanity. They weren't going to raise another cosmetic product junkey and so no matter how hard she cried, they wouldn't cave.
Of course, my Grandpa couldn't stand to see his only granddaughter upset about anything. . .
The old man went off to his laboratory where he concocted a miracle paste. He poured one tablespoon of tomato juice into a shot glass, and added a half tablespoon of lemon juice and a teaspoon of turmeric powder. What is turmeric powder you ask? It's an Indian spice. India produces 100% of the world's supply and consumes 80%. Anyway Grandpa thickened the paste by adding bleached white flour until the sauce achieved a sticky consistency.
Grandpa made my sister lie down on the sofa and close her eyes she had to keep her eyes shut no matter what. Then Grandpa insisted that she keep perfectly still while he painted her face and eyes with his potent mixture.
My sister was made to lie perfectly still and only take deep breathes for ten or fifteen minutes... until she could stand it no longer. When she washed off the smelly red paste we simply couldn't believe the difference. I wish I had taken pictures, it was
remarkable. The dark circles were gone.

HOPE THIS HELPS YOU OUT AND GOOD LUCK

  47. QUESTION:
    Redness around eyes? Help?
Ok so i have very very pale skin. I also have some redness above my eyes....it stands out even more because of my paleness. Once I used some eye makeup that irritated the area above my eyes...i took care of the major redness but since then I have ALWAYS had a bit of redish color above my eyes..it is easy to cover up with makeup but I want to get rid of the redness naturally. Also if you knew how to get rid of dark circles/"bags" under your eyes then that would be great too!!
    Thanks in advance!

    • ANSWER:
Take a break from all make up for a while. Eat healthy, drink plenty of water, and exercise. Moisturize your eye area thoroughly. I've switched from a retionol under eye cream (I'm out, too lazy to get more) to a dab of extra virgin olive oil applied with a cotton pad. My under eyes are radiant in the morning. It's a natural way to brighten the eye area and moisturize. Just make sure it's EXTRA VIRGIN olive oil, not plain olive oil, which is "watered down" with other cooking oils.

  48. QUESTION:
Please help. I need dark circles under my eyes. How?
    Hi, I need help.

I need dark circles under my eyes without using make-up. Or that yellowish tinge from drugs? (I don't do them).
I've seen like tens of questions asking how to get rid of them and none about how to get them.

Simply not sleeping for couple of nights in a row does not help, any more and I'm a zombie.
Nor does sleeping only few hours every night for about a week.

Chain smoking only gives a slight tinge visible in dim lights, but I'm trying to get rid of that, only need couple a day to calm the nerves.

Is there anything else I can do?

I've heard of drinking lots of black tea before sleep, but instead of dark circles, it creates repelling brownish bags.

I need to look naturally tired and f**ked up. Not for long, so don't worry about it being harmful in any way or something. Just have to keep it up for about a week.

I hope there are some ways, please answer.

    Thank you!
